Description |
Photograph, Reproduction of a Post Card of the Townsend Homestead, later home of the Stevens family. The house was torn down to build the Sycamore, Illinois Municipal Hospital at Somonauk & Edwards Streets. In the early 1900's, the heirs of Eleanor F. Townsend deeded this property to the City of Sycamore to use as a hospital. During 1912, the old home was used as a hospital with but a few changes. In 1913, Mrs. Mary M. Stevens, as a memorial to her husband, Horace M. Stevens, gave $22,000 for the purpose of building a wing to the old Townsend home, to contain an operating room and other professional equipment for a modern hospital. The Stroberg home, which is still standing is pictured in the foreground. |
