Description |
Wood Cut, of Sycamore Chicago & Northwestern Railroad Depot, Sycamore, Illinois Reverse side of plaque reads "Sycamore Train Depot Sycamore, IL. In 1858 Sycamore businessmen raised $75,000 to complete a 4 mile railroad to Cortland connecting to the Chicago/Galena line. Commerce flourished and the County Seat remained in Sycamore. In 1880 the depot was constructed of 12 inch thick bricks baked in local kilns. The first floor had a ticket office and men's and women's waiting rooms and to the north a warehouse. By 1910 seventeen passenger trains stopped dally. After years as a warehouse the renovated depot now houses the DeKalb County Community Foundation." NOTE: The text is wrong - it was a five-mile spur line. Available at Made Just For You Sycamore, Illinois (815) 895-8122. 2012 the Cat's Meow www. catsmeow.com CSTM 22069 |
